Sure, people will say Jesus is the reason for the season, but Thor is the reason the fifth day of the week is named Thursday. That doesn’t mean I celebrate Thor. The fact is, people don’t open the Gospel and read why Jesus came.

—Ed Stetzer, LifeWay president and a Southern Baptist pastor, in Survey: For many, Jesus isn’t the reason for the season, USA Today, 12/20/2010.

Sad, but true. I’ve been wishing people a Merry Capitalist Holliday for years now. WWJD? Probably not trample someone for a great Black Friday deal.

Jesus Is a Liberal Democrat

The best four minutes on religion and politics I’ve ever seen. Thank you, Stephen Colbert.

Key Quote: “If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t help the poor, either we’ve got to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we’ve got to acknowledge that he commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition, and then admit that we just don’t wanna do it.”

I hate these people. If you don’t have a real question, shut it.

Say what you will about carbon offsets, this cartoon by TerraPass is hysterical.
I know it may be environmental heresy, but I’m a huge fan of offsets. I’m also a huge fan of my home state, Colorado, which is why I buy all my offsets through the Colorado Carbon Fund. I also enrolled in NStar Green to get all my energy from renewable sources, but it was a total hassle—those guys don’t make it easy to love the planet.

Gronk Crush Middle Class Tax Hike

Senator GronkI worked in political communications for years, and this satirical op-ed in The Onion by “Senator Gronk” perfectly parodies what I did every day:

Me hate 3712! Bill punish hardworking Americans trying to earn fair wage and maintain decent standard of living. Bill discourage spending at time spending needed. Bill bad! Hrrrrngh! Me crush regressive, short-sighted bill!

Naturally, Gronk takes the opportunity to go negative against his opponent—or as media consultants call it, “comparative:”

Gronk opponent for Senate seat, him vote against the people in two unremarkable terms as congressman. Rep. Charles Braithwaite, him absent from vote almost one session out of five. Gronk have one of best attendance records in Congress! Gronk smash Braithwaite! SMASH!

Another absolutely smashing parody by The Onion.
